“We tiptoe through life hoping to safely make it to death.” – Unknown
Fear, worry and angst have been conditioned into you. You’ve been pumped full of it. By media. By marketing. Even the people who love you.
You’re wing-clipped by caution. You may even think fear is “good” for you. That it keeps you safe and has all kinds of hidden, mysterious values.
It doesn’t. Fear creates “dis-ease.” A resistance to life that shows up as inflammation and disease in your body.
Fear tends to manifest the very thing it purports to protect you from. Picture a hypochondriac worried sick, or a person so clingy they push everyone away.
Unless there’s a clear and present danger barreling down at you, your fear is imagined. It’s a monster in the closet so cleverly rationalized that you don’t see it. That’s the trap. You think, “but I really should be worried about this (or that).”
That’s just more fear talking.
You have survived in spite of your fears; not because of them.
Get to know the energy of fear in you. Practice relaxing with fear in your body. A dry mouth, clammy hands, a queasy feeling in your stomach… you can handle these.
On the other side of that feeling is freedom.
“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful are caught as often as the bold. Faith alone defends.” – Helen Keller
